The Feast of Saint Patrick dates back to more than fifteen thousand years ago and the reason behind this celebration was to commemorate the death date of the most commonly-recognised patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick. This day also serves to honour the heritage and culture of the Irish in general.
But “Why the copious amounts of drinking?” you might ask. St. Patrick’s Day was also the day that the Lenten restrictions on eating and drinking were lifted for the day. Throughout the years the tradition of indulging in abundance of alcohol has increased, but no one seems to be complaining.
