Hi Printsomers!
As every Tuesday here we are again bringing you our newest episode of out most popular series: #TshirtTuesday. A place where we interview and feature some of the most exciting and new personalised T-shirts designers on Earth (are you one of them?).
This time around we bring you something a bit different. Cross Eyed Tee is technically not a clothing line, but a platform where designers can upload their artwork for a chance to win some money and see their designs printed on T-shirts.
We speak with founder Damon O’Brien who explains the philosophy behind the project and how it came about.
I hope you enjoy our newest #TshirtTuesday!
Interviewing Damon O’Brien, founder of Cross Eyed Tee
Tell us about you, what’s your name? Where are you from? What do you do?
I’m Damon O’Brien; The Cross-Eyed Tee story begins in Perth, Australia, where my passion for travelling was born. The sheer scale of the place gives you a wonderful sense of freedom, particularly on the beach where the miles and miles of golden sand make you feel like running forever, maybe even taking off! Lying on the beach one day, I made a promise to myself that I would be as free as I could be in this fast-paced world by making time to be with my family and friends – this led me to quit my full-time job and create Cross-Eyed Tee. The same motivation that made me start my own business – freedom – is carried directly into the business itself. Cross-Eyed Tee is all about liberty and self-expression, about not listening to people who say ‘you can’t do this or that because it won’t work or look good’. It’s about the passion to be whatever you want – a painter, a musician, a traveller, a clown, anything you can imagine. We exist to help you pursue that passion and be free with Cross-Eyed Tee!
What about your brand? What makes it unique?
What makes the company so different and unique is that we are *not* selling our branded T-shirts. We are calling for ALL the creative people around the world. Such as Graphic Designers, Photographers, Artists, Painters, Illustrators, anyone with a creative eye to get involved. We want people to get noticed/seen for their fantastic creative skills.
How does Cross Eyed Tee work? (As many people ask) Cross Eyed Tee are a competition based company, holding competitions every two weeks. We ask for you to register online and become a member. Once you’ve submitted your T-shirt designs they will automatically feature on our website for the public to buy. You, the designer, will receive £1 for every sale of your designs. We also post your designs on all social media giving you extra credit and getting you noticed. Five of the best T-shirt designs towards the end of the competition, will get the chance to feature in our *Hall of Fame* permanently on our website. Winning up-to £250 & £3 for every T-shirt sold, including an extra £1 which will go to WWF & Lifestraw.
If it were a person, what would he/she be like?
The person to represent Cross Eyed Tee would be a happy-go-lucky, passionate individual with a sense of freedom and the ability to say ‘YOU CAN’
Simplicity is key, describe your brand in three words:
Freedom Passion Inspiration
For how long have you been selling T-shirts? Any remarkable story you learnt on the way? Any advice for beginners?
The company launched on the 14 of July 2016.
Remarkable stories – It’s taken two years to set my ideas into a reality. Traveling around and meeting amazing people and hearing their inspiring stories for the reasons they are traveling, has for sure had an impact in how I wanted to set my own business up. I have shared the ‘Cross Eyed Tee’ ideas along the way with positive and negative feedback, and now the dream has become a reality, it’s incredible.
Advice for beginners – Never quit and keep pursing your passions and abilities to make something of yourself.
Key question, why should people be interested in your brand?
We help people with a passion for art and design; we want people to get SEEN for their outstanding T-shirt designs and earn money and possibly go onto bigger and better things. We want to pursue everyone’s creative eye and get as many people on board.
