If you’re a regular follower of this series then you already know that it is a platform where we like to feature some of the best new brands and custom t-shirt designers out there. This time around, we bring you something a bit different.

A few weeks ago, I got an email from Matthew, a young entrepreneur from Shepherdsville, Kentucky, asking me if I could take a look at his designs and perhaps even feature them in the series. To tell you the truth, at first I didn’t know wether to include him or not – at the time of our first contact he still hadn’t set up his online shop – it seemed more like a hobby rather than a real brand, but in the end I couldn’t get the concept out of my head so I went along with it.

Don’t Be That Guy is a line that talks about those irritating little things that other people do. It is simple, it is fun, it works. The idea appeals to me like not many other brands do. If you’ve ever been annoyed by that guy, then you know what I’m talking about.

Interviewing Matthew Sohl, founder of Don’t Be That Guy

Tell us about you, what’s your name? Where are you from? What do you do?

My name is Matthew Sohl. I’m from Shepherdsville, Kentucky and I’m currently a bank teller.

What about your brand? What’s its name? What makes it unique?

Don’t Be That Guy is a branding idea I came up with in high school but only started taking seriously in college. It started off as just some silly little designs and Don’t Be That Guy was just going to be one design but he decided he wanted a little bit more than one shirt. He wanted an entire line and spin offs!

That Guy allows the wearer to display their pet peeves proudly on their chest. I guess you could say, you’ve got your peeve on your sleeve.

Spin offs include “Don’t Be That Girl” “Don’t Be Those Parents” “Don’t Be That Boss” and many more! The possibilities are endless as long as there are annoying people in the world!

If it were a person, what would he/she be like?

He’s already got a face so you know exactly what Guy looks like!

Three Words: Branding Pet Peeves

For how long have you been selling t-shirts? Any remarkable story you learnt on the way? Any advice for beginners?

I haven’t really started selling them in bulk yet. I’ve had a couple people buy them but right now I’m trying to raise some money to purchase more and startup the online store.

Key question, why should people be interested in your brand?

Now, I want to do more than just sell the T-Shirts. When you buy a That Guy tshirt, I want you to know you’ve done something great. My goal is for every shirt sold, I will donate baby items to organizations that cater to single parent homes. I think it’s important that single parents are helped through their tough times, I want my work to help with that.
