On this edition of #TshirtTuesday, we sit down with Kevin, a 23-year-old Los Angeles resident who just started his very own personalised T-shirt line: PRIVILS. We talk about the difficulties of starting your own business, the journey to making the coveted first sale and the film adaptation of Divergent.

We hope you enjoy our newest #TshirtTuesday!

Editor’s note: Privils doesn’t appear to be in business anymore. We’re sorry for the inconveniences this might cause.

Interviewing Kelvin, founder of Privils

Tell us about you, what’s your name? Where are you from? What do you do?

Hey! My name is Kelvin and I’m 23. I’m currently living in Los Angeles, US. I run a small creative digital agency for about 3 years and being an entrepreneur, I always have this passion to try new things. So I have decided to put my creative juice not only on the web but also on a T-Shirt.

What about your brand? What’s its name? What makes it unique?

Privils is a minimalistic brand that creates meaningful apparels. Not just good looking shirts but also has a meaning in it. We want the people who wear it not only look good but also being able to relate to the shirt itself. Like our horoscope collection, there’s a relation between the shirt and the wearer. That’s the kind of apparels we want to create. I think that’s what makes our brand unique.

If it were a person, what would he/she be like?

I would say like the movie Divergent. If you watched the movie, you would totally know! If not, go and catch it! It’s quite a good movie.

Simplicity is key, describe your brand in three words:

Minimal. Meaningful. Everyone.

For how long have you been selling T-shirts? Any remarkable story you learnt on the way? Any advice for beginners?

I have not been selling for long so there isn’t any remarkable story. But I can tell you guys some of my experience. Selling T-Shirts is hard. Like any business, it is always never easy. It takes effort, not to mention an eye for design. But to those who wish to join the path of selling t-shirts, go for it. So long as you are able to take failure.

Why do I say that? To be totally honest, most of us will fail, for the first time that is. But that failure will be a great learning experience and eventually, we will learn something out of it and become better. When you give it another shot the next time, you will have a higher chance of succeeding because you will know what to do and what not. As the saying goes, “Failure is the mother of success.” That is very true.

A key question, why should people be interested in your brand?

Because our apparels make you look good, feel good and you can be proud of.

Are you on Social Media? Where can we find you?

Yep, on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Brilliant! Nice talking to you! Before you go, let’s shoot some quick questions!

  • Dogs or cats: Dogs
  • Apple or PC: Apple
  • Football or basketball: Basketball
