A new week and a new episode of our #TshirtTuesday series where we interview and feature some of the newest fashion designers on planet T-shirt! This time around, it’s the turn of one of our newest friends: Nicholas Moteka and his cool brand Teka Teka!

Moteka himself describes the brand as the love-child of Gwen Stefani and Jefree Star – I think that says it all. Strong, fashion-forward and proud, this clothing line features designs that are not for the faint of heart. If you believe that fashion should make statements then this might just be the brand for you.

Interviewing Nicholas Moteka, founder of Teka Teka

Tell us about you, what’s your name? Where are you from? What do you do?

My name is Nicholas Moteka but I am better known as Nick Teka. I am born and raised in NYC. I have spent much of my professional life working with interior design and now I am building my brand.

What about your brand? What’s its name? What makes it unique?
My brand is TEKA TEKA and our designs definitely make us unique.

If it were a person, what would he/she be like?
If Gwen Stefani and tv had a baby it would probably feel like TEKA TEKA.

Simplicity is key, describe your brand in three words:
Sweet. Sour. Confident.

Each design is costly and you need to be 100% in love with what you are doing.

For how long have you been selling T-shirts? Any remarkable story you learnt on the way? Any advice for beginners?
I have been developing my line for over a year but we just launched on 4/20 of this year. My advice for beginners is to live with your designs for a while before you manufacture them. Each design is costly and you need to be 100% in love with what you are doing. I dwindled my launch down to six items and I originally planned on launching about fifteen. We cut quite a bit over time!

A key question, why should people be interested in your brand?
My products are made locally here in NYC and we definitely transpire an urban vibe. I think that many people can relate to the feelings of my clothes, and we should always express ourselves openly.

Are you on Social Media? Where can we find you?
Yes, we are on Instagram and on Facebook.

Brilliant! Nice talking to you! Before you go, let’s shoot some quick questions!
