Hello Printsomers!
Like every Tuesday, here we are again with the latest episode of our most popular series, #TshirtTuesday! Where we feature up-and-coming personalised T-shirt brands and interview the designers behind them.
This time around we bring you a super special edition because… well, it is the last one. We have decided to stop this series in order to focus on other types of content. New, relevant and engaging content for you!
So without further ado, we present our final #TshirtTuesday: Weekend Tee where we talk with designer Christian Collard about his one-day-at-a-time philosophy and why he is inspired by the outdoors and leisure activities. I personally would love a day between Saturday and Sunday, wouldn’t you?
I hope you enjoy our last #TshirtTuesday!
#TshirtTuesday Weekend Tee
Tell us about you, what’s your name? Where are you from? What do you do?
My name is Christian Collard and I live in Massachusetts, USA. In addition to running the Weekend Tee Company, I enjoy photography, the outdoors, and road trips with my family.
What about your brand? What’s its name? What makes it unique?
Our Brand is The Weekend Tee Company. We live, promote, and showcase the Weekend Lifestyle. The Weekend lifestyle is all about enjoying life on your terms and doing the activities that make you happy. We provide recreational-styled designs on the most comfortable threads to wear and share on weekend adventures.
Describe your brand in three words:
Weekend. Lifestyle. Adventures.
Tell me about your path to becoming a T-shirt designer
My path started back in high school where I learned graphic design and print making. I love transferring my ideas from paper to the monitor and then using the fine craft of silkscreening fabric with ink. I went on to study graphic communications in college and have spent many years in the printing industry. I’ve now found myself in a place where I can use all my creativity with the hands-on experience in printing and running a small business.
Do you have any memorable designs you’ve done?
My first is probably my most memorable. I put the words “Weekend Tee” onto a shirt, offered it online where a stranger ordered it and posted a picture of themselves on Instagram.
If you could design a T-shirt for anyone, who would it be?
Bear Grylls. And I’d hope he’d fly me to a remote location in the mountains via helicopter to deliver it!
Has creativity always been a part of your life?
Absolutely. I’ve had a hand in many different jobs and tasks in my career including design, marketing, photography, web services, and social media. Ive held technical and managerial jobs as well but I’ve always found myself coming back to roles that allow me to create.
While I have long term goals written down, and new ideas to tackle, life can change on a dime — so I enjoy it! Carpe Diem.
What advice would you give to someone who is starting out?
Just start and keep it simple. I currently find myself trying to do too much and have to eliminate things off my list because they are not part of my skill set or core business goals. Create a business plan — even if its just a paragraph about your main goal and how to achieve it — pin it up where you can read it everyday. Make notes of any new ideas and utilize them for downtime. Also, keep your expenses to a minimum at first. You don’t need to waste money advertising a new business that has no sales or following. Build a following, get feedback on your designs and products.
What’s next for you?
Another cup of coffee. I take it one day at a time. While I have long term goals written down, and new ideas to tackle, life can change on a dime — so I enjoy it! Carpe Diem.
Are you on social media?
Yes, find us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Quick round:
What have you been listening to lately?
I’ve recently added new tunes from The Head and The Heart, xx, Coin, Young the Giant, and Lumineers to my playlist.
What have you been watching lately?
Honestly – I hardly ever watch television. I’ll catch a Bruins or Celtics game if I get really bored.
What have you been reading lately?
I love the feel of a real magazine publication, I subscribe to Outside, Entrepreneur and grab anything else that looks interesting at a local mag rack.
What food(s) have you been enjoying lately?
I love everything at Panera Bread!
What have you been wearing lately?
Tee shirt and jeans 😉
