Sports Shirts UK: Dust off the Wimbledon t-shirts and make yourself comfortable on the edge of your seats; the Grand Slam is back. Wimbledon kicked off yesterday with British hopeful, Andy Murray brushing his baby faced opponent aside in straight sets to begin his defence of the men’s singles Wimbledon title he historically won last year. In fact the swiftness with which Murray went about his business was a slight disappointment here in the office as we were only distracted for minimal time and back at work much sooner than we had hoped. Cheers Andy.
Team Printsome, like most around the UK, will be tuning in to coverage from the all England Club almost everyday for the next two weeks in the hope of seeing Andy lift the trophy, repeating last year’s heroics.
We are all sports fans in the office but we are also all in the custom apparel and printing industry, which means that we will also be keeping an eye on the fashion choices of the players and public around the tournament. If you are new to watching Wimbledon then the first thing that will strike you is the formality of the clothing all around the tournament. The players must wear white and all the officials are kitted out with full Ralph Lauren gear in the traditional Wimbledon green and purple. As an official sponsor, Ralph Lauren has a line of clothing inspired by the tournament that reflects the tradition and class of Wimbledon tennis.
Sporting brands also come head to head at the tournament in the form of player sponsorship. Andy Murray will be wearing Adidas, Djokovic UniQlo and both Federer and Nadal will sport their own respective line of Nike apparel.
Tennis and fashion have enjoyed a fruitful relationship in the past, with the likes of Fred Perry and René Lacoste successfully starting fashion labels. More recently, Roger Federer and Nike created the RF range of clothing, which includes hats, polo shirts and t-shirts, come of which have with a gold Nike tick. One thing missing from this list of awesome tennis apparel is the ‘Come On Tim’ Wimbledon t-shirt, which is sadly yet to be printed.
